Why verb forms matter at Level 2

Level 2 grammar keeps asking you to put another structure after a verb. That means if your plain form, て form, or past form is shaky, the bigger grammar pattern also breaks.

Verb course

Start from the dictionary form

Dictionary form is the base for patterns like ために, ことができる, ことにする, and まえに. If you can find the dictionary form quickly, many other patterns become easier.

Verb course

Know the six core forms

For this course, the most useful forms to control are ます form, dictionary form, plain negative, plain past, plain past negative, and て form. These cover a huge amount of Level 1 and Level 2 grammar.

Verb course

Train by pattern, not only by memory

The goal is not just remembering one verb at a time. Try to notice the family pattern: godan shifts, ichidan drops る, and する / くる are irregular.
