Using で to show a cause or reason with nouns

This is useful when a noun such as rain, sickness, or an event is the reason something happened.

  1. あめ で しあい が ありませんでした。Because of rain, there was no game.
  2. びょうき で 学校 を やすみました。I was absent from school because of illness.

Rebuild the pattern

  1. Pick the cause nounUse a noun like rain, sickness, or traffic.
  2. Add でThis links the noun cause to the result.
  3. State the resultSay clearly what happened because of it.
