Using という for called, named, or quoted information

Use this when you want to say something is called something, or to attach quoted information to a noun.

Read and notice

  1. 『となりのトトロ』という えいが が すき です。I like a movie called My Neighbour Totoro.
  2. にほん は べんり だ という いけん が おおい です。There are many opinions that Japan is convenient.

Structure drill

Rebuild the pattern

  1. Quoted name or ideaChoose what is being named or quoted.
  2. というAttach it to the quoted part.
  3. NounFinish with the noun being described.
